Climate Eritrea

Climate Northern Africa

Eritrea has a climate which is very hot and humid in the coastal plains and in the western lowlands and therefore also has a rather stressful effect on the organism. In the middle parts of the country the temperatures are more pleasant and on the high plateau (Asmara) it can get quite cool. It doesn't rain very often. However, if it rains, the rain falls mostly in the months from June to September.

The most pleasant temperatures prevail in the period from November to the beginning of February. During these European winter months it is springlike warm in Asmara during the day and freezing temperatures at night.

In the western lowlands the months April to June are the hottest with over 40°C and December with about 12°C the coolest. During this time strong temperature differences between day and night are usually measured.

The best time to travel is from October to April/May.
