Botswana has a subtropical semi-desert climate. The driest and hottest months are September, October and November. The summer rainy season begins in December and lasts until March. Temperatures between 30 and 35 degrees are reached during the day. Precipitation mainly occurs during short, heavy downpours and thunderstorms. In the winter months from May to August, temperatures at night sometimes drop below freezing. During the day, temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees are reached. Strong temperature differences between day and night are normal throughout the year. The dry season is six to nine months. The annual precipitation in Botswana is between 250 and 500 mm. The highest values are reached in the southeast of the country. In the Kalahari Desert the maximum amount of precipitation is 100 mm.

The best time to go wildlife watching in Botswana is from June to October. During this time it is dry during the day and very warm and cold at night. The most pleasant weather for travelling is from April to October.
